The Southern Nevada Musical Arts Society will celebrate “Broadway! 100 Fabulous Years,” an entire century of entertainment, laughter and beautiful music at
3:00 p.m. Sunday, June 7th
UNLV’s Doc Rando-Grillot Recital Hall on the UNLV campus.
The 50-voice Musical Arts Chorus, under the direction of Dr. Douglas R. Peterson, and accompanied by pianist Eric Eichorst, will perform the Revue, “100 Years of Broadway,” beginning with the music of Tin Pan Alley and continuing to contemporary Broadway tunes. The Musical Arts Chorus will also highlight choral selections from Broadway’s “The Sound of Music” by Richard Rodgers in observance of the film’s 50th anniversary and music from “Crazy for You” by Ira and George Gershwin.
Soprano Cindy Stock will be joined by Tenor Robert Peterson and Soprano Suzanne Russell in a performance of Stephen Sondheim’s delightful “Getting Married Today” from the Broadway hit, “Company.” Guest vocalist Sidra Kain will perform “Sunrise, Sunset” from “Fiddler on the Roof” and Tyrone Bowers will offer piano selections by Cole Porter.
The Musical Arts Chorus closes the afternoon concert with “A Sentimental Journey,” a montage of popular music from the 40’s. This is the closing concert of SNMAS’s 52nd season and marks Douglas Peterson’s 47th year as music director.
